James Bay is a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood, located just south of downtown. It is surrounded by water on three sides; Victoria Harbour to the north and west, the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the south, and beautiful Beacon Hill Park acts as a green border to the east. Its extensive waterfront is alive with activity in an array of industry, government and transportation facilities.
The area of James Bay contains countless key attractions, including the Parliament Buildings, Beacon Hill Park, Fisherman's Wharf and many hotels and bed and breakfast establishments. It is also the hub of Victoria's tourist industry with the Royal British Columbia Museum and the adjacent Empress Hotel serving as focal points for visitors to the city. Horse-drawn carriages and waterfront walkways can be found throughout the area.
This neighbourhood also has a wide variety of housing styles including heritage homes, and an array of multi-family housing and apartment buildings. The heart of the neighbourhood, the "Five Corners" is filled with spectacular local shops and services. James Bay Community School and South Park Elementary also serve the neighbourhood.
